Like many others, I too have worn a lot of hats throughout my life: the qualified professional, the artist, the wife, the parent, the daughter, the sister, the student. These are all roles I move through. Some stay forever, others don't. They change and evolve, as all things do.
I have accumulated titles, qualifications, awards, among many other things. I have also failed a lot, changed direction, made mistakes, started over, doubted myself and learned lessons the hard way. I expect I will continue to do all of these things.
Don't get me wrong, these roles matter, they reflect parts of my journey and provide a framework for the work I do. Yet, I try not to confuse them with my essence, with who I am.
Like children at play, we are capable of moving freely through many roles. It is important for me to remember that they are all tools, not truths.
What remains underneath is something far simpler: a human expression of life itself, trying to show up more fully for what matters. Someone who values authenticity over performance, curiosity over certainty, connection over status, and presence over perfection.
So many of my struggles rose from becoming too attached to who I think I should be, or who I once was. When our worth becomes tied to a career, a relationship, achievements, or even appearance, life can feel precarious and threatening. A job changes. A relationship ends. Our bodies age. Circumstances shift. And suddenly it can feel as though we are losing ourselves, or we have absolutely nothing left.
Perhaps what is changing is not who we are, but only the roles we have been rehearsing. This perspective shapes my entire life. I don't see this work as helping people become better versions of themselves. Nor do I believe we need to earn love and acceptance by trying to fix ourselves.
Instead, I like to invite people to reconnect with themselves beneath the expectations, labels, stories and identities they may have carried for years. Together, we might explore questions such as: What am I protecting right now? Which parts still serve me and which ones might be ready for some relief? What becomes possible when I stop trying to prove my worth? What matters most to me?
I do not see myself as someone who has the answers. My role is to meet you where you are, listen, validate, and bear witness as you make sense of your own experiences. I have a deep respect and appreciation for the many ways people make meaning of their lives. Sometimes this happens through conversation and reflection. Sometimes it emerges through creativity, symbolism, imagination, relationships, nature, movement or quiet moments of awareness. There is no single path.
For me, moving forward is more about going inward and remembering that beneath the roles, stories and identities we have accumulated, there is already a life here waiting to be lived.
